What we’ve done in Event Safety

Irish Maritime Festival, Drogheda, 2015

This was our first year working on the Irish Maritime Festival in Drogheda. We were invited to pitch for the work and we were delighted to win it. The range of activities included in the festival made it one we definitely wanted to work on.

We worked closely with Whitelight Consulting, Louth County Council and the Drogheda Port Company on this event. It took place across the weekend of the 19th to 21st of June.

The festival featured a fairground, family fun activities, food, art, a motor show and music as well as a full programme of activity on the water, including extreme sports, paddle boarding and a boat race.

There was a great team already on it with Con and Karen from Whitelight, Karen Healey and Mary and all the team in the Council. Add in all the other stakeholders and it was a large team but one that worked very well together.

What we did

We were delighted to win the competitive pitch to provide Event Safety services to the Maritime Festival 2015. We worked with the team on this from appointment through to completion and enjoyed it immensely. With activities based both on land and water, there was a lot to this ever-growing event.

Why we loved this one

We genuinely enjoyed this one a lot. The people involved in running this one are all really good people.

We all got on really well and worked together REALLY well to put on a great event.

The weather was good too, which meant that the 40,000+ people who came along got a great experience.

Some of the challenges

The event is held on a live port in Drogheda, which means the build and break have to be carefully managed to ensure everything is done safely and that normal port operations weren't adversely affected.

Given the popularity of the event, the crowd management was a little challenging at times, as pretty much everyone wanted to see the same things at the same time.

happy client says

'For The Irish Maritime Festival, in its third year and with attendees in excess of 40,000, Louth County Council wanted to ensure the event continued to be run as safely as possible. Cuckoo Events came highly recommended and we found their advice, many years of experience and help invaluable prior to and during the weekend of the Festival.

Having the Cuckoo Team on the ground during the actual event was especially beneficial. They're highly experienced event people and know how to manage crowds without the crowds even knowing they're being managed.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the Cuckoo team for future events.'
